Switzerland blends influences from Germany, France, and Italy in a secluded, mountainous landscape dotted with some of the purest lakes on Earth. Its fields, vineyards and orchards often live at the edge of ripeness, with each year’s crop having to dodge spring freezes and summer storms. But when the harvest is good, some of the world’s most precise fermenters and distillers produce some of the most expressive wines and fruit brandies in the world.
