Murgas

The vineyards of Murgas are located in the rolling hills of Freixial, in the western part of the Bucelas region. Situated on a southwest-facing slope, the 12-hectare vineyard sits on limestone soils and marl, growing Arinto (9 hectares), Esgana Cão (1 hectare) and Touriga Franca (2 hectares). Many of these vines were planted over 30 years ago by the grandfather, Sérgio Geraldes Barba, with the balance planted just a few years ago by grandson João Franca. Farming is organic (although not yet certified). After two decades in which grapes were sold off, vinification resumed with a 2017 release. The winemaker is Bernardo Cabral.

Murgas Touriga Franca DOC Lisboa is made from the grapes of the Arneiro vineyard, in Bucelas, in calcareous soils on a slope exposed to the west. Ruby in color, it shows aromas of raspberries and fresh currants, wrapped in notes of pink pepper and woodsy mushrooms. The mouth is enveloping, with very soft but structuring tannins. It ends long and very serious, bringing together the attributes of the great red wines of the region. Full details
